Everyone has a Skill

Nice Resume, But What are your Actual Skills ?

People who market their useful skills get work, while those who only market their resumes get overlooked . We hear it and see it every day; one day the official unemployment rate goes up, the very next day it goes down. Whether you are one of the millions of Americans currently unemployed or underemployed, one thing is for sure, the thriving economy has dramatically shifted from a “jobs” market to a more “skills” based economy.  Currently, one of the best untapped markets for work is the local service economy.  But in order to successfully participate in the thriving local service economy, one needs to take a serious inventory of skills.

Although most people have scaled back their spending habits on non-essential goods, they are still spending money on necessary everyday services. For example, services like home maintenance, computer services and auto repair are still in high demand because these services are absolutely essential.

With a little creativity and some useful skills, you can tap into this hidden work market.  Perhaps part of your plan is to post your resume on every major job site and follow through on every possible job lead you can find. Maybe a good start, but lets face it, right now there are millions of people doing the exact same thing.

Perhaps its time to rearrange your thinking about how you look at the entire concept of work. For example, when you work, you are basically exchanging your time and skills for a set amount of money. Instead of saving your skills for a perspective employer (which may take some time), why not utilize your existing skills immediately until you find that future job? In other words, don’t let finding a new job get in your way of working and generating an income right now.  Get started now and sign up for a  free account .

In Part 2, we will give you some specific ways to market your skills locally and get back to work.

With the recent economic crisis, which has rocked everyone, I am glad you’ve made this platform to shake this feeling, helping to re-create our own economy within our own neighborhood. Connecting people who provide services to those who need them.
